The Psoriasis Institute is Queensland’s centre of excellence for the management of psoriasis. Our team of specialists deal with all aspects of psoriasis management from diet and medication (traditional and complementary) through to phototherapy, biologics and state-of-the art laser modalities.

As psoriasis is a multisystem disorder that can affect joints and the cardiovascular system, we also have a rheumatologist and cardiologist on our team. This multi-specialist approach gives best patient outcomes.

Dr Tania Zappala

  • Consultant Dermatologist

Dr Tania Zappala studied undergraduate medicine at the University of New South Wales. She completed her postgraduate specialist training in Brisbane and the United Kingdom. She is published in international dermatology journals. Dr Zappala has an interest and extensive experience in the use of systemic and biologic agents for the treatment of moderate to severe psoriasis.

Dr Davin S. Lim

  • Consultant Laser Dermatologist, Westside Laser & Cosmetic Clinic

Dr Lim is a laser dermatology subspecialist who also treats psoriasis. His interest is in the photobiology aspect of psoriasis management, including phototherapy and laser treatment of psoriasis. Davin has received dermatology training in the UK, Ireland, the United States, and Australia and has numerous international publications to his name.

Dr Shobhan Manoharan

Dr Shobhan Manoharan completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland.  He subsequently undertook specialist training in dermatology at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and in the United Kingdom.

He has published extensively in international peer-reviewed dermatology journals, holds a visiting consultant position at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and is a senior clinical lecturer with the University of Queensland. He has a special interest in phototherapy and the online management of psoriasis.

Dr Shiva Baghaei

  • Consultant Dermatologist, Westside Dermatology Group.

Dr Baghaei is an experienced dermatologist and has treated psoriasis for the past two decades. She is experienced in all aspects of psoriasis management including the use of phototherapy, tablets, and cutting-edge biologic agents. Her experience and knowledge in the management of psoriasis is a welcome addition to the Psoriasis Institute.

Dr Chin Ng

  • Consultant Rheumatologist, The Psoriasis Institute.

Dr Chin Ng graduated from The University of Melbourne. He subsequently undertook specialist rheumatology training at Royal Brisbane Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital. He was involved in rheumatoid arthritis research at Princess Alexandra Hospital. He was subsequently promoted to a visiting rheumatology consultant at Princess Alexandra Hospital in charge of biologic clinics. He also has accreditation as a visiting rheumatologist at Sunnybank Private Hospital.

His interests include autoimmune disease and inflammatory arthritis, particularly rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.

A/Prof Karam Kostner

  • Consultant Cardiologist, Mater Adults Hospital, Brisbane.
  • Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Queensland.

A/Prof Kostner’s main areas of interest are preventive cardiology and cardiac imaging. He runs a large public Lipid Clinic at the Mater Hospital and also consults privately there. He has extensive clinical and research experience in lipid research . He is the President of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand's Qld branch and section editor of the European Journal of Clinical Investigation. Dr Kostner has more than 100 publications and is a grant reviewer for NHMRC and several European grant agencies.

Ned Saric

Ned Saric has graduated from The Queensland University of Technology in 2000 with Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Podiatry) and has been practising as a full time podiatrist in a private practice setting. Since 2005 he has been working in his own part- time practice at St Lucia and now in Taringa.

His scope of practice includes all aspects of podiatry such as: diabetic foot assessment and foot care, age related foot care, orthotic therapy, sports injuries, gait problems, children foot problems, footwear advice and especially skin and nail care.

He has a special interest in skin conditions especially psoriasis.

He is a long term member of the Australian Podiatry Association and is a fully accredited podiatrist. He is actively involved in professional continuing education. This includes providing educational podiatry sessions in the community.

He works closely with local GP practices and aged care facilities as well as community centres.

Dr Alan Gallogly completed his medical degree at the Queens University of Belfast. He subsequently undertook training in Irish General practice before pursuing specialist training in General Adult Psychiatry in Melbourne. Having worked in Irish General Practice he has first hand experience in working with individuals who have chronic skin complaints.

Dr Gallogly now has developed an interest in the psychological factors contributing to chronic skin diseases. Chronic skin disorders are known to interfere with psychological health causing issues such as lowered self esteem, anxiety, depression and can contribute to withdrawal from ones social circle.

He is experienced in both pharmacological and psychological interventions for psychological well-being.

Dr Leigh Hibbins

Dr Leigh Hibbins graduated in medicine from Monash University 1981. During 30 years in general practice he has focused on understanding the psychological aspects of medicine. He now practises exclusively in the area of counselling and clinical hypnosis. His background in medical practice places him well in helping people self manage chronic illness.

Libby McBride

  • Accredited Practising Dietitian

Libby is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and graduated from Queensland University of Technology with honours. Over the past 6 years Libby has specialised in the area of weight management in a range of private practice settings in Australia and overseas at University College London Hospital. In addition to weight management Libby regularly helps people with the following conditions: irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome and cardiovascular disease. Libby uses scientific research as a background for all advice and can help with anything from general wellbeing to specific health conditions such as those listed above.

Nigel Harris

Nigel Harris is a specialist nurse practitioner with over 20 years experience in dermatology. He holds a Master of Nurse Practitioner Studies from the University of Queensland. He also holds Biologic Masterclass training and deals with all aspects of psoriasis management, including topical therapy, systemic therapy and phototherapy.

Emily Hyde
